Zero Waste Week, this year taking place between 1 September and 5 September, is an annual campaign aimed at reducing landfill waste – a time to stop and think how we manage and create our waste and how can we do better. This isn’t just about recycling. It’s about looking at the bigger picture—how we use resources, what we throw away, and how we can change our habits to protect the planet. Reducing waste helps save money, conserves natural resources, and lessens the strain on the environment.
It is simple to get involved:
- Mark first full week in September in your calendar
- Set your goal to do one thing to reduce landfill waste
- Take action, have fun and celebrate your successes!

If you would like to get involved further here are some ideas that could help:
- Set zero waste goals (Take The Zero Waste Challenge)
- Swap disposables for reusables (The world produces 400 million tonnes of plastic waste each year)
- Try to reduce food waste (this is the largest component of land fill waste)
- Dress sustainably and repair torn clothing
- Attend zero waste events
- Donate unwanted (and usable) items
