Administrator – Mothers’ Union Winchester Diocese

Mothers’ Union (MU) is a women-led, volunteer movement founded in 1876, with a membership of some 4 million worldwide, some 33,000 of whom live in the UK and Ireland. It is a movement based on Christian fellowship, with members expressing their faith through action in their local communities, aiming to create a world where every individual can reach their full potential, by stopping poverty, injustice and violence. Within Winchester Diocese we have a little over 400 members, with 18 branches and approximately 100 Diocesan members.

MU are looking for a capable administrator to support their leadership team and their membership around the Winchester Diocese. They do not have a physical office, so it is expected that the adminstrator will work from home. They will work closely with the Diocesan President and other members of the Leadership team. Working hours to be agreed with the Diocesan President but can be flexible (and the role could be term-time only for a suitable applicant).

Key Responsibilities

  1. Keeping the membership information up to date, and sending out annual renewal reminders for subscriptions.
  2. Organising meetings etc
  3. Taking minutes of Leadership meetings and Diocesan meetings
  4. Reporting to Leadership team via the Diocesan President
  5. Collating and distributing information for members
  6. Collating information from the end of year forms from branches and entering information into online systems.
  7. Dealing with general correspondence

Person Specification

  1. Experience of work in a similar role.
  2. Excellent communication skills, both written and oral
  3. Good IT skills
  4. Good organisational skills
  5. Ability to repect matters of confidentiality, sensitivity and compassion

Terms and Conditions

  1. Administrator to be self-employed at a rate of £16 per hour.
  2. A laptop will be provided
  3. The hours worked may vary from week to week up to a maximum of 10 hours per week and will be agreed between the administrator and the Diocesan President.
  4. Pro-rata holiday entitlement
  5. Six-month probationary period at the end of which there will be an appraisal. Thereafter appraisals will take place annually. During the probationary period, one week’s notice of termination of employment will be required on either side; thereafter one month’s notice on either side will be required.
  6. Two references will be required for a successful applicant and a DBS check will be undertaken
