Last week Rev Mike Griffiths in partnership with the Education Team ran an Ubuntu drumming workshop with pupils from a school in Winchester. Rev Mike Griffiths, ex-officio at the school, explains in the video below how they’ll be creating a one-time musical piece as part of the worship in the School Leavers Services in the summer. These services will be taking place across our Diocese and the Diocese of Portsmouth.
Every school will be approached during a specific part of the worship to show their ‘beat’. Each beat will represent each school in an individual way, whilst combining with the beats of other schools to create a truly unique and amazing sound.
1 It is good to praise the Lord
and make music to your name, O Most High,
2 proclaiming your love in the morning
and your faithfulness at night,
3 to the music of the ten-stringed lyre
and the melody of the harp.
4 For you make me glad by your deeds, Lord;
I sing for joy at what your hands have done.
5 How great are your works, Lord,
how profound your thoughts!
Psalm 92: 1-5
It would be great if parishes linked up with their school in this expressive and great way of praising God. Drumming is also a well-known method for supporting mental well-being and having fun!
