Andrew Robinson, the Chief Executive of the Diocese of Winchester, is to leave office at the end of October 2021. He served in the role for 13 years, having been appointed in 2008 by the Rt Rev Michael Scott-Joynt, Bishop of Winchester. Andrew was appointed a lay canon of Winchester Cathedral in 2012.
Bishop of Southampton, Debbie Sellin, commented:
“I cannot begin to express how much Andrew has given to this diocese, professionally and personally. He has provided enthusiastic and incisive leadership of the Diocesan Office for well over a decade, modernising and improving our processes beyond recognition. His contribution to the life and breadth of the Diocese as a whole is incalculable, and he has helped steer us through the unprecedented challenges of the last two years. He will be sorely missed by us all, and leaves with our prayers and very best wishes for him, Lorraine, and their two daughters.”

“It has been a privilege to be part of the diocesan leadership for the past thirteen years. Amidst the challenges facing the Church of England, there is great hope and encouragement, and I have been inspired by the dedicated and talented people it has been an honour to serve. I am particularly grateful to the diocesan staff who have been incredible colleagues over the years. I wish them and my successor the very best.”
Since 2000, Andrew has been a commissioned officer in the Royal Naval Reserve and in 2018 was appointed Commanding Officer of HMS KING ALFRED. He has chosen to leave the Diocese to focus on his Royal Navy work, and on his positions with a number of charitable organisations, including Winchester University, where he is Vice-Chair of the Board.
The trustees of the Winchester Diocesan Board of Finance will be making interim governance arrangements, following Andrew’s departure. A recruitment process for the next Chief Executive will begin later this year.
