Lay Discernment

Lay Discernment

If you wish to offer for Licensed Lay Ministry (LLM), whether directly after conversations with your vicar or after working with your LVA, you should arrange for your incumbent/priest-in-charge to complete and return a referral form to the DDO.

You will then be invited to complete a discernment form which tells us about you and your experience, and your sense of call to this ministry. In addition, working with your incumbent, you will write a ministry rationale detailing how you see your future licensed ministry playing out in the parish. You will also be asked to provide details of two referees who we will approach, as well as from your incumbent. You will then be invited to a Discernment Panel, which will include a short presentation from you followed by interviews with the Warden of Readers (The Bishop of Basingstoke), the Head of Mission & Ministry and a Deputy Warden of Readers.

If you are selected for training, you will complete a 2 year course, about which more information can be found here.
