Motor Bikers’ Service at South Baddesley Church & Blessing the Bikes

St Mary’s Church, South Baddesley, held their first Blessing of the Bikes service and barbeque on Sunday 31 August. It was a resounding success and literally a dream come true for church member Lynda Leen!

It was Lynda’s idea to put on a biker’s service, and when she mentioned it to the Vicar of Brockenhurst, Revd Simon Newham, also an enthusiastic biker, he simply said “let’s do it!”.

In perfect weather, the riders of fifteen bikes attended the outdoor service, making up a congregation of around seventy. Revd Simon led an apt and moving service, which included a blessing of the bikes.

The bikers were charming and appreciated the excellent barbecue and plentiful food provided by St Mary’s congregation. It was a very special event, its success down to everyone who helped and participated, especially Lynda, who worked so hard to make the whole thing possible.

St Mary’s has had a busy summer, starting with their successful annual fete at nearby Pylewell Park, a memorial cricket match against a local team, and will be soon having their pet service for Animal Welfare Sunday. Their Harvest Festival and lunch will finish off the season – all on top of welcoming their new Associate Priest, Revd Stephen Bennett.
