A beautiful poppy cascade was recently unveiled at St Mary’s Church Tadley, in anticipation of Remembrance Sunday and to mark the opening of the 2022 Tadley Autumn Arts Festival hosted by the church and supported by Tadley Town Council.
The Poppy Cascade project involved 5000 poppies being raised up St Mary’s 20-metre-high tower. This was no mean feat and required the making, engineering and knot tying skills of hundreds of members of the congregation and wider community.
“It was such a joy to see the Tadley community come together. Not only has it deepened the relationships between the churches in Tadley, but also led to the community joining together… We were so excited this see this project join with the Arts Festival this year.”
– Rev Steve McKay
Other events from the Tadley Arts Festival included the Scarecrow Trail (a competition which invited the community to build scarecrows using only natural or recycled materials), a visit from RISE theatre company who led drama day for local schools from across Tadley with children exploring our responsibility for God’s planet, and an evening concert by singer-songwriter Philippa Hanna. St. Mary’s Silchester also hosted wonderful multi-media art exhibition, featuring work from a number of local artists.
