We are delighted to share the news that The Ven. Jean Burgess will be joining us in early summer as our new Archdeacon of Bournemouth.
The Collation and Installation of the Ven. Jean Burgess as Archdeacon of Bournemouth on Sunday 25 June at 3.30pm during Choral Evensong at Winchester Cathedral, and afterwards for tea at Wolvesey. Please RSVP: lynda.mumford@winchester.anglican.org
Jean comes to us from the Diocese of Manchester having spent five years as Archdeacon of Bolton and Salford serving a diverse mix of churches in both urban and rural contexts. Previously she served the Diocese of Derby at St Alkmund’s Church for ten years, and as a Canon of the Cathedral, Vocations Adviser and Assistant Archdeacon. Before training for ordination, Jean spent over 20 years serving as a nurse, and enjoyed a varied career in district, practice and special care baby nursing.
Jean will be moving to Hampshire with her husband, Graham. They have three grown up children and five grandchildren, with another grandchild on the way! She loves walking, painting and travelling, as well as spending time with family and friends.
When searching for our new Archdeacon, we described the role as inspiring and encouraging church communities and their leaders, both clergy and lay. In Jean’s own words: “I am very excited and thrilled to be joining you as Archdeacon of Bournemouth at an exciting time for both myself and the Diocese of Winchester. I am so looking forward to working with everybody, getting to know all the churches as I walk alongside them, and joining you all on this journey of renewal as we see where God is leading in this season.”
We hope you will join us in praying for Jean and everyone in the Archdeaconry of Bournemouth, and in preparing to welcoming Jean.
