The Marketplace at Saint Mary’s Southampton

The Marketplace at Saint Mary’s Southampton

The Marketplace is a community food store, set up in response to growing food bank usage, as well as the on-going impact of Covid. In partnership with Southampton City Mission, Saint Mary’s are excited to be the pilot Marketplace in Southampton.

As opposed to the foodbank model of free crisis provision, The Marketplace aims to offer dignity and choice in exchange for a small subscription fee and better quality, fresh and ambient, food products.

It is also a community where relationships are built, and a more holistic approach to support can be developed. Linking in with our other projects, such as ReWork and CAP, we want to build a depth of support and change into people’s lives that will have a long term, sustained impact on them and their families.

‘I now look forward to something in my week, I can see people and I always leave with a smile on my face’.The Marketplace is a membership food project for the local area, providing access to and choice of fresh and healthy food. It’s all about dignity and participation, building friendships and finding connection.

If you could give some time to volunteer every few Thursdays, we’d love to hear from you – drop us a DM on facebook or instagram or find out more online.
